Shining a Light on Jeff Mayse

In 2014 Conger Construction Group was fortunate in securing Jeff Mayse as a Project Superintendent. Jeff has spent the majority of his adult life in the construction arena beginning as an apprentice in the industrial and manufacturing sector. From there he moved onto carpentry and steel construction. Just prior to joining Conger Construction, Jeff spent twelve years as a traveling superintendent. He’s done it all and seen just about everything. Today we shine a light on Jeff Mayse.

Jeff’s personality is big and his heart for his work and people is bigger still. As project superintendent, Jeff works onsite to manage the work installations, subcontractors, schedules and safety. He’s been known to motivate his crews by doling out a Dum Dum lollipop to the team member who has gone above and beyond each day; giving credit where credit is due. “This is a difficult job. It’s high stress. You have to find a way to have fun every day.”

Outside of work, Jeff enjoys traveling with his son. Together they have swum with the jellyfish in the keys, smashed grasshoppers in Tennessee, chased scorpions in Georgia, and currently the two are exploring the Swiss Alps! He hopes to travel to the Amazon, Galapagos Islands, and hike the jungles of Costa Rica. He’s about two years shy of checking that last one off his list.

When asked what about Jeff would surprise people he replied with, “I’m pretty straight forward. You’re either going to love me or hate me. Either way, you’ll know what I think.” He jokingly warns new hires that “this is not a safe space. You might get your feelings hurt, and at the end of the day if they were hurt, I will not hug you.” (But tomorrow is a new day and you could be the one who earns the lollipop.)

If there is one piece of advice Jeff could offer potential new hires it is this: Be truthful. Don’t enhance your resume, interview and experiences. It shows immediately in the field. Instead be willing to learn. “If you haven’t messed up today, you haven’t done anything.”

Thank you, Jeff! You make hard work fun and rewarding. We’re glad you’re a part of the Conger Team.
