Franklin High School is a 130,236 SF campus designed to reflect both the future of education and the heritage of its community. As Construction Manager at Risk, Conger Construction Group partnered with the Franklin City School District and SHP to deliver a modern, light-filled learning environment that fosters flexibility, connection, and well-being. The centerpiece is an open-air courtyard surrounded by academic wings, providing natural light throughout the school and creating a multifunctional space for gathering, learning, and celebration. From flexible classrooms to symbolic architectural elements like the three entry arches, every design decision was made to inspire and engage future generations of students.
The project presented complex challenges—from the demolition of historic buildings with environmental hazards, to elevating the entire building pad above a 100-year floodplain, to navigating national equipment delays. Conger employed innovative solutions, including precast plank construction for speed and durability, embedded project engineers for tighter coordination, and QR-coded field tracking for real-time punch list progress. Despite tight schedules and unforeseen obstacles, Franklin High School was delivered on time and on budget, allowing the Class of 2024 to graduate from a campus that honors the past and is built to last.
