PROJECT DESCRIPTION

North Avondale Montessori was one of the Cincinnati Public Schools’ 10 year $1 billion rebuilding program. The project achieved LEED Silver certification from the US Green Building Council. Conger had to demolish the existing cast-in-place concrete school building to make way for the new school which was built over the old footprint. Further complicating the project, there was an existing Cincinnati Recreation Commission building attached to the existing school which had to remain open throughout demolition and construction. Once the original school was demolished with 85% of the waste being diverted from a land fill, we had to completely rebuild the site and building pad to accept the new foundations. The new school was 2 stories on part of the site and 1 story on the other, which required a 346’ long 12” thick concrete foundation and retaining wall in the middle of the school.
